Fantastic news this bright April morning that the new rail operator in Scotland is to reopen the Forfar line! Abellio, the new Scotrail franchisee take over running Scotland’s railway this morning hot on the heels of the new franchisee for the East Coast line, Virgin. In a ground breaking partnership it’s been announced that working together the new operators plan to reopen the Forfar line in 2018. There are to be direct express services to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, commuter services to Kirriemuir and on to Newtyle and a daily service to London with connections to the new Euro Eurostar terminal in North Yorkshire. What better news to liven up this sunny April 1st morning!

From February 2011 to May 2017 I was the Chief Executive of Angus Council in Scotland. In the preceding 20 years I held senior roles at North Lincolnshire Council, Education Leeds, Dudley MBC and Suffolk County Council. I was born and brought up in Suffolk, but have worked in several parts of the UK over the years. I am married with two sons and two amazing grandchildren. To fill in spare time I am a Director and Trustee of the UK charity TCV, and a Fellow of the RSA. My likes include anything to do with the sea, being in France when it’s sunny, motorcycles, Ipswich Town Football Club and cricket all year round – England, and Essex and being the best loved. My younger son races motorcycles and I am mad enough to help when I can.
